Round-Up: Fitzpatrick, Sullivan win Tallaght 5k.

IMG_2115Tomas Fitzpatrick of  the host club won the Tallaght 5k for a second year; Fitzpatrick had run the Rotterdam Marathon two weeks ago. A close second was Raheny’s Mark Kirwan, with Martin Hoare of Celbridge AC third. First woman was Claire Sullivan of Rathfarnham WSAF who also won the Dublin novice road title. First of the male novice runners was  Peter Fitzsimons of Tallaght. The race, held in perfect running conditions, attracted a record 300 entries, including a strong team from South Dublin Special Olympics, led home by Timothy Morahan in an excellent time of 19 mins  35 secs.  A few pics at www.flickr.com/lindie

TWO WOMEN finished in the top six at the Barrington’s Hospital Limerick Marathon. Winner was Limerick’s Martin Doody in 2:28.33. In fourth place was Ciara Hickey of Bros Pearse in 2:47.04 while sixth was Tullamore’s Pauline Curley in 2:59.12. Winners of the half marathon were West Waterford’s Philip Harty and Sarah Mulligan of DSD. Winning the six mile in 29 mins 33 secs was Peter Somba who outkicked Clonliffe’s Sergiu  Ciobanu. Siobhan O’Doherty of Borrisokane was a clear winner of the women’s race in 34:17 – almost three minutes ahead of the chasers. Assuming that is correct.

GARY O’HANLON of Clonliffe and Sli Cualann’s Deirdre Byrne were the winners of the Boyne 10k. O’Hanlon, who was also first M40, finished in 32 mins 9 secs. Byrne’s time of 34 mins 14 secs saw her finishing fourth overall in the race. Drogheda and District won both the men and women’s team categories.

LIN_1188HIGHLIGHT of the Irish Milers Club meet at Greystones yesterday was an 800m  World Junior qualifying time for Carla Sweeney of WSAF. Sweeney won the women’s A 800m in 2 mins 09.14 secs – inside the B mark  for the World Juniors. To book her place on the team she must run that time or faster a second time and is aiming to do so at the next IMC meet in Belfast next weekend.  Other good wins came for  William Maunsell in the 5000m, Brian Kelly in the men’s 800m and Fiona Kehoe in the women’s 800m.

Abroad, Adam McMullen of Crusader opened his season with a 7.75m long jump in Claremont Florida last night; Lisburn’s Amy Foster won the 100m in 11.54 secs.
