Weekend Round-up: Talty Wins Clonliffe Anniversary Race

Raheny’s Aoife Talty was a clear winner of Clonliffe Women’s 50th anniversary Cross-Country in Santry.  In the battle for second place, Fiona Clinton of DSD pulled away on the second laps to come home clear of Ailish Malone from host club Clonliffe and Deirdre Doyle of St Laurence O’Toole. LIN_3313

For fifth place, Vanessa Sallier of Rathfarnham was running her second race of the morning – along with Nuala Reilly and Mary Jennings, she ran the BHAA Teachers race at 10am and then charged over to Santry to line out in this very special anniversary race.

Among the founder and early members of the club who supported the athletes were Anne Cummins, her sister Ursula O’Brien, Frances Mansfield, Kay Guy,  Jean O’Neill and Padraigin Moore. Pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com

* Cillian O’Leary and Elish Kelly were the winner’s of the four-mile race BHAA Teachers’ Cross-Country  hosted by Castleknock College . Caroline Crowley won the women’s 2-mile race. Some very interesting results among the older age groups, with the British and Irish Trial races taking place next Sunday in conjunction with the Gerry Farnan promotion in the Phoenix Park. There were also some very close team races.  Next BHAA event is the Airtricity Dublin Marathon, with individual and team categories; see www.bhaa.ie.

* Clonliffe’s Mark Kenneally finished 11th at the Boston Half Marathon recording a time of 64.07 – only a second off  the PB he recorded in the Great North Run last month. Alistair Cragg has being quietly getting on with his preparation for December 1st`s Fukuoka Marathon in Japan. He has steadily built up his training miles in Rhode Island with coach John McDonnell racing sparingly and last Sunday at the Chicago Marathon,  pacing Matt Tegenkamp to 20 miles, going through the half in 65.13.

* Sarah Mulligan  of DSD ran a superb time  of 34.54 to win the Donadea 120km in Clane. Brian McMahon was first man.
