Round-Up: Cronin and Guiden Win Dublin Novice Titles

LIN_3100Kate Cronin from host club Raheny and Ian Guiden of Clonliffe were the winners of the Dublin Novice Cross-Country titles in St Anne’s Park today.

Cronin broke away on the second of two laps in the women’s 3000m and finished comfortably clear of her team mate Chloe Doran. Meghan Ryan of DSD improved as the race went on to finish third. Liffey Valley, with Siobhan Keenaghan  9th leading them home, won  the team title for the first time in the club’s history. With all four of their runners in the top 17, they finished three points clear of Celtic DCH, who beat DSD on count-back for the silver medals.

Ian Guiden pushed the pace from the start of the men’s 6000m and soon broke clear winning in 18 mins 42 secs. That gave him an eight second margin of victory over Karol Cronin of Sportsworld. With Edgar Sjmskis third, followed by Nounir Bouzaine 9th and Kris Valters 16th, Clonliffe took team gold. Crusaders was second and Donore third. A record total of 71 women and 89 men ran  in the event.

* At the Meath Novice Cross-Country in Stamullen, Thomas Moran,Dunshaughlin  (son of Dommo Moran)led the men’s novice field home. Loughlin Campion, Dunboyne (son of Loughlin from Civil Service Harriers) and Rob Tully, of host club Star of the Sea were 2nd and 3rd. The women’s novice title went to Navan’s Ciara Rooney, ahead of the St Brigid’s duo of Elaine Plunkett and Eileen Rahill. Andrew Coscoran from the host club won the M18 race ahead of Brian McGrath, Bohermeen and Abdullah Abdulle,Dunboyne.

*Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir  finished seventh at the Cardiff Half Marathon this morning in a new personal best time of 65 mins 11 secs. Africans took the first four places, with the winner Loitarakwai Lengurisi setting a new course record of 61 mins 51 secs. It was his first race outside Kenya.

* Clonliffe’s Gary O’Hanlon was the runway winner of the Athloen 3/4 Marathon, with almost five minutes to spare on second placed Bernard Roe of Raheny. Eoin Callaghan and Pauline Curley were the winners of the Kilcock Kilomarathon.

* Hannah Oldroyd  won the RunHer 10km in Belfast with Cathy McCourt and Julie Balmer 2nd and 3rd.
