Schools: Over 1,100 at DCU Cross-Country

Eimear Fitzpatrick of Our Lady’s Terenure and Adam O’Brien of St Aidan’s won the  senior races at the DCU Schools Invitational held in surprisingly clement weather yesterday.
Over 1,100 young athletes took part in the eight races, held over a soggy course that included hills and straw bales to make it interesting.
An impressive winner of the girls’ inter race was last year’s junior winner, Sarah Healy of Holy Child Killiney, who beat Grace Dervan of Our Lady’s Terenure into second place. Sean O’Leary from St Aidan’s CBS outran Adam Fitzpatrick and Rory Lodge, both from St Kieran’s  Kilkenny  for the boys’ title.
At junior level,  the winners were Dora Medgysey  of St Dominic’s Cabra and Conor Doherty  from St Colman’s Newry. Corine Kenny  from Gorey CS and Sean Donoghue of St Declan’s Cabra took the minor titles, with both leading from the start.
St Aidan’s CBS winning the best overall boy’s school from St Kieran’s Kilkenny, with St Michael’s Enniskillen and St Malachy’s Belfast sharing third. Best overall girls’ school was Muckross Park who edged out St Dominic’s of Cabra.  Maynooth PP  was third.
