To the sound of “Rith! Rith! Rith!” from the bi-lingual commentator, Myles Gibbons of Sliabh Bhuidhe Rovers in Ferns was a clear winner of the Ras UCD 5km held around Belfield – one of the few roads races in the country conducted “as Gaeilge”.
Gibbons’ time of 16 mins 34 secs gave him a comfortable margin over Paul Lynch who finished second in 16:49 Third and first over 40 was Vincent McGuinness, with Ras regular Donal Hanratty finishing fourth.
UCD’s Laura Shaughnessy was first home of the women in 19 mins 16 secs, with UCD students Roisin Neary and Claire Tonry second and third. Among the other finishers were ex-Irish international Rose Lambe and her son Lorcan, who is studying for a masters in UCD.
