Carmel Parnell has won a second gold at the World Masters in Lyon – this time it’s in the W60 10,000m. Parnell’s time of 40:29.86 gave her over a minute and a half to spare on the second placed Dominique Combes of France who finished in 42:16.59. Mick Traynor of Raheny, who like Parnell had started his campaign in Lyon with victory in the 8km cross-country, had to be content with third place in the M50 race. His time of 33:23.95 put him just 31 seconds behind the winner Francis Fortenada of Spain.
In the W40 age group, Cathy McCourt finished fourth in 39:15.28, while Jacqueline McMonagle was seventh W45 in 41:00.42. Barry Minnock competing in the M40 age group was forced to drop out.
