Wins for Gregan and McMahon at Nivelles. Somba wins at Dunshaughlin

Brian Gregan  in the men’s 400m and Christine McMahon  in the 400m hurdles both won their events at the CABW International Meet in Nivelles, Belgium today.

In the men’s 400m, Gregan won in 47.52 secs, with Harry Purcell of Trim second in a season’s best 47.74 secs, Fourth was Brian Murphy in 48.72 secs.  All are contenders for the Irish 4 x 400m relay squad

In the 400m hurdles, McMahon won in 58.13 secs with Jessie Barr second in 58.84 secs. McMahon’s time was well off the 56.42 secs she ran in Geneva last weekend, but she was having a busy day also running the 4 x 400m where the Irish quartet (McCallion, Denny, P Healy, McCormack) was second in 3:36.33.  The Irish women’s 4 x 400m squad is currently ranked 4th in Europe thanks to the time of 3:35.06 run in Loughborough a few weeks ago. McMahon is planning to run another 400m hurdles race in Brussels tomorrow. Her target is a Rio qualifying time of  56.2 secs.

In other races, Amy Foster was second in the 100m with a time of 11.65 secs – her season’s best is 11.42 secs. Kilkenny’s Eoin Everard finished fourth in the 1500m in 3:42.83, while Zak Curran was second in the B 800m in 1:48.51.

AT THE IMC /GV RYAN MEET  in Irishtown last night, Kieran Kelly of St Abban’s won the A 800m in 1:48.99 while Clonliffe’s Dave Flynn  ran a season’s best of 8:18.32 to win the 3000m.

ON THE ROADS, Peter Somba just beat DSD’s Brandon Hargreaves to win the Dunshaughlin 10km in a time of 29 mins 43 secs. First woman was Laura Shaughnessy  of DSD in 35 mins 40 secs.
