Rio-bound steeplechaser Sara Treacy of Dunboyne AC won the women’s 3km at the Armagh International Road Races tonight. Treacy’s time of 9 mins 15 secs was enough to see off the challenge of Scottish athletes Sarah Inglis in 9:19.01 and Laura Whittle third in 9:19.24. Ann Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny was sixth in 9:23.54, Newcastle’s Kerry O’Flaherty  eighth in 9:24.59 and Deirdre Byrne of Sli Cualann 16th in 9:38.68.  .

In the men’s 5km, a spectacular 67 broke 15 minutes. Leading home the multinational field was Charlie Hulson in 14 mins 3 secs; he was followed by Belgian orienteer Yannick Michiels in 14:02.99. Among the Irish finishers were Kevin Mulcaire of Ennis TC 15th in 14:14.02, Rory Chesser, also Ennis TC, 20th in 14:23.95, Thomas Fitzpatrick from Tallaght 29th in 14:31.66 and  Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir 37th in 14:35.24.
