Round-up: Tailteann Treble for Lawler. Wins for Barr, Robinson, Gregan in Tallin

IMG_0791Sean Lawlor of Kylemore College proved the star of the day at the Aviva Tailteann Schools Interpro in Santry winning both the 100m and 200m and then anchoring Leinster to 4x100m victory.

Even better, his 200m time of 21.67 secs was a new record.

In the girls’ 100m, Megan Marrs of Strathern Belfast ran 11.71, equaling Michelle Walsh’s best of 11.7 secs set 37 years ago in 1977 before electronic timing was used. Mustafa Nasir  of  HFCS Rathcoole timed his kick to perfection  in the boys’ 800 and was rewarded with a  new record time of 1:53.98. Also in record breaking form was Molly Scott of Col Conglas who won the 80m hurdles in 11.30m.

Another record came in the girls’ triple jump when Maria Carey of St Mary’s Newport jumped 11.65m. On a good day for Connacht, Michaela Walsh of SM&P Swinford won both the hammer and shot. With the weight of both reduced to 3km, Walsh threw a stunning 59.92m in the hammer. Her schools mate Aisling Forkan added to the Connacht total with wins in the long jump and 300m.

There was a double for St Mac Dara’s with Carla Sweeney winning the 800m and Nadia Power the 15000m. Over 3000m, Isabel Carron of Skerries CC was a comfortable winner of the girls’ race; when it came to the boys, Kevin Mulcaire from St Flannan’s Ennis was forced to work slightly harder by Jack O’Leary of Clongowes. In the first year of the girls’ 1500m steeplechase, Coolmine’s Alison Armstrong was a clear winner in 5:18.86.

IMG_0656Winning the 400m in style was Blackrock’s Brian Masterson who ran  49.75 secs to beat John Fitzsimons from Kildare Town.  Overall, Leinster came out on top. Pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com.
