Round-Up: Stephenson wins Battle of Clontarf. Plus Easter results (ongoing)

Rathfarnham’s Paul Stephenson was an impressive winner of the Battle of Clontarf 10-Mile, incorporating the Leinster Championships, held in St Anne’s Park, Raheny this morning.

Stephenson was pushed all the way by Raheny’s Mark Kirwan and the result was a personal best time of 52 mins 8 secs. Kirwan finished second in 52:19 with Belfast visitor Lindsay Gordon third. First woman was Laura McDonnell of Tallaght.

RAHENY’S Conor Dooney set a new course record when winning last Friday’s Butlerstown 4 mile road race in Co Waterford. Dooney’s time of 19 mins 23 secs smashed the old best of 20.09. Waterford AC ’s Trevor Power who won the race last year finished second in his final race before next Sunday’s London Marathon with a time of 20.33.
Kilmore’s Jackie Carty had a gun to tape victory in the women’s race winning in 24.56. Second was West Waterford’s Kate Veale West Waterford AC   in 25.16, over two minutes faster than her time of last year.

GARY THORNTON OF Galway City Harriers was not only the runaway winner of the Kilmovee 10km in Co May but smashed the course record with a time of  32:00. A distant second was Sean McLaughlin  from Westport AC in  33:44 while in third place came Gerry Ryan of Craughwell AC who was also first M50 and was making a welcome return to racing. First woman was Sligo’s Lucy Brennan another indestructible veteran , in 39:30

ANNMARIE MCGLYNN of Letterkenny put on a tremendous display in Tuesday night’s Bay Road 5k in Derry, finishing first woman in a personal best time of 16 mins 12 secs. Mark McKinstry, North Belfast Harriers, was first across the line in 15.21.
At Wednesday evening’s Transplant Games Fund 5km in Ramelton, Mark McPaul of Finn Valley finished well over a minute clear of his nearest challenger, Kevin Logue in 15 mins 44 secs. Sinead Peoples was the first woman in  in 20.06.

At the scenic Ballyliffin Coastal Challenge, Siobhan Gallagher of Letterkenny was the first  woman in a time of  71 mins 50 secs. Eoghan McGinley was the winner of the Letterkenny Easter 3km on Sunday morning in  9 mins 6 secs; Caitriona Jennings was winner of the 5km in 17 mins 18 secs and joins the select group of women who have won mixed races outright.

SEAN HEHIR was first home in the Michael and Brenda Nolan Memorial 5km with a time of 15 mins 01 sec – a final blow-out before the London Marathon. Aisling Nic Dhomhnaill of Donore was first woman in 18.07.
