Clonliffe’s Brian McMahon was a clear winner of the Lucan 5km, honouring the memory of club stalwart Tom Byrne.
McMahon’s time of 15 mins 26 secs put him comfortably clear of Peter Mooney and Gary Condon, who was the first over 40. Sarah Mulligan of DSD stuck with the leaders throughout the race and finished fifth overall and first woman in 16 mins 34 secs. Lucan’s Niamh Fitzgerald was second and Charlotte Kearney of Donadea Runners third.
After the race, tea, sandwiches and home bakery was served up in a marquee inside the Lucan track – a clever idea and much appreciated.
JUST SIX DAYS after winning the Belfast Marathon, Freddy Keron Sittuk was in Kilkenny for the Stonyford 10km. He won at a trot in 31 mins 31 secs; Noel Murphy of Waterford AC was over two minutes adrift for second place. Sixth overall and first woman in 35 mins 55 secs was Siobhan O’Doherty of Borrisokane.
SERGIU CIOBANU of Clonliffe in 32.19 and Marie Mc Carthy of Farrenfore Maine Valley in 37.16 led home 354 finishes at the Annerville 10km in Clonmel.
OMAGH’S Stephen Duncan and Natasha Adams of Lifford were the winners of the inaugural Strabane-Lifford Half Marathon, with just under 400 completing the cross-border course.
