Round-Up: Tom Frazer 2:19.53 in Chicago Marathon. Sinead Diver 2nd in Melbourne

Some interesting marathon results – in Chicago, Tom Frazer, who has lived in the USA for some years,  recorded a time of 2:19.53. In Australia, Sinead Diver ran 2:34.15 to finish second in the Melbourne Marathon.

Diver, aged 37, was born and brought up in Ireland. She moved to Oz when she was 24 and only started running four years ago.  She first attracted attention two years ago when she ran 16:24.46 for 5000m and 33:55.96 for 10,000m. She may have been injured in 2013, since there are no times listed for her, but she re-emerged  last July with a 74 mins 25 sec time in the Gold Coast Half Marathon.  Also in Melbourne, Raheny’s Mark Kirwan ran 2:23.17.

MARIA MCCAMBRIDGE  of DSD finished fourth overall and first woman at the Adidas Armagh 10-mile. Her time of 55 mins 16 secs saw her finish just 1 min 27 secs behind the overall winner Paul Barbour of Omagh Harriers.  The wheelchair race came down to a sprint, with Paul Hannon winning in 51. mins 55 secs and Jim Corbett just a second behind.

LOCAL athletes Cian O’Reilly and Catherina McKiernan were the winners of the Run with Catherina 5km in Cavan town. Second overall was Wishu Gebreselassie of DSD,  an Ethiopian who has lived in Ireland for about eighteen months.

AT THE  Donadea 10km, hill runners were out in force with Barry Minnock of Rathfarnham the overall winner,  and Sarah Mulligan of DSD clocking a very respectable time of  34 mins 43 secs to finish first woman on the undulating trail course.

EVA McNELIS and Rory Kavanagh were the winners of the Meath Inter Cross-Country titles at Fraine, Athboy.  and  Dunshaughlin wre best of the women’s teams, while Betty Frank McDonnell memorial cup for the best men’s team was won by  host club Fr. Murphy’s.
