He finished  comfortably clear of  his Rathfarnham team mate  Fikru Teshager,  who was timed at 68 mins 58 secs, and Raheny’s Mark Kirwan, who crossed the line in 69 mins 27 secs.

In the women’s race,  Sanchez, who is back living in France after ten years in this country,  came home in 78 mins 26 secs. Catherina McKiernan, who still holds the Irish marathon record, was second and first W45 in 79 mins 27 secs  while 2012 Olympian, Caitriona Jennings, who has recently joined Letterkenny AC in her native Donegal, was third in 80 mins 23 secs. ON THE RIVER LIFFEY, Peter Egan of Salmon Leap and Mads Pederson of Denmark img_5259won one of the best K2 races ever at the Liffey Descent, beating British pair Jonathan Boyton  and Nicky Cresser in a sprint for the line after 17 miles of rough water and lots of spills. They finished in 1 hrs 48 mins 8 secs.

On a great day for the Salmon Leap club in Leixlip, Egan’s sister Jenny won the women’s K1 race at her first ever attempt, while Tom Brennan retained the men’s K1 title he won last year. He finished in 2:02.52, with a minute to spare over Belgian visitor Dries Corrijn. Third was Sean McCarthy in 2:03.56 while fourth was Jon Simmons in 2:06.48; both also Salmon Leap members.
