Sittuk and Curley win Walled City Marathon. Fitzpatrick runs 14:03.95 at BMC

Freddy Keron Sittuk of RaheIMG_5043ny Shamrock won the SSE Airtricity Walled City Marathon in Derry by almost three minutes. Sittuk’s time was 2:22.34; finishing second was Peter Brandon Somba  in 2:25.26. Local man Greg Roberts  was a close third in 2:25.38, followed by Gideon Kipsang and then Lezan Kimutai who was first over 40. Finishing seventh overall, first woman and first over 45 was the ageless Pauline Curley of Tullamore Harriers in 2:47.29.

AILEEN REID has finished fourth in the  London World Triathlon Series – a sprint distance race. Winner was  Gwen Jorgenson of the USA who was notching up a 10th World Series win.
Reid emerged from the 750m swim in 17th position  and kept in touch with the leaders on the 20km cycle before moving through the field in the 5km run, picking up laces and recording the second fastest run “split” of the day. Her total time was 56:25. In the men’s race, Bryan Keane finish 36th in a time of 52:05.

AT THE BMC Grand Prix in Sportcity, Thomas Fitzpatrick came close to his PB when he ran a time of 14:03.95 for sixth place in the A 5000m race. Just two places behind was Paul Pollock, whose time of 14:04.78 knocked almost six seconds off his previous best. Tullamore’s Liam Brady  also ran a personal best 14:38.74 for 17th in this race. In the B race, Clonliffe’s Jayme Rossiter finished second in 14:20.18 – another PB. Kevin Seaward finished just behind him in 4:20.89.

Clocking a time of 4:23.39 in the 1500m was Rose Anne Galligan. In the B race, Amy O’Donoghue of Emerald ran a PB 4:23.28, while Ellie Hartnett of the Leinster squad ran 4:26.36.

BRIAN GREGAN of Clonliffe finished fifth in the A race in 46.78 at the Putbosmeeting in Oortegem, Belgium.  Winner wasIMG_6419 Jonathan Borlee in 45.60. Craig Lynch finished second in the B ace of the main programme in 47.28 secs; winner was Johan Delasse of France in 46.94.

In the 400m hurdles, Jason Harvey clocked 51.85 secs for third in the A race of the pre-programe. Mark O’Sullivan ran 8:29.63 to finish third in the first heat of the 3000m. Anthony Lieghio of Tallaght ran a time of 1:48.95 in the 800m B race. In the 3000m, Brandon Hargreaves of DSD was ninth in
