Roads: Conroy and Mulligan Win Battle of Clontarf ’10’

IMG_4904Raheny’s Ian Conroy made it a home  victory at the second annual Battle of Clontarf Brian Boru 10-Mile held  in St Anne’s Park, Raheny. Conroy came home a clear winner in 55 mins 13 secs, with Gary Condon of Sli Cualann second and first over 40, and Rathfarnham’s Kevin Danaher third. Having a good run to finish ninth overall was Mullingar’s Eddie Newman who was first over 50.

Finishing tenth overall and first woman was Sarah Mulligan of DSD, whose last minute decision to run the race paid off handsomely. She finished her first ever ten miler in 57 mins 33 secs, with Raheny’s Maria O’Sullivan a distant second in 64 mins 51 secs and Sinead Eacrett of St Michael’s third and first over 40.

A DAY EARLIER,  Luke Ford of Dunboyne and Caitriona O’Brien of Bohermeen were the winners of the  Meath 10k road championships hosted by the Fr Murphy’s club  at Kildalkey. Ford’s winning time was a personal best 32 mins 22 secs; in second place, Derek Croal was leading Bohermeen to team victory, while third was Richie Bell of Fr Murphy. O’Brien’s time of 39 mins 47  secs put her just ahead of her Bohermeen club mate Andre Mc Guinness with Clare Ni Fhaircheallaigh  of Dunboyne  a close third.

MARTIN FAGAN of Mullingar Harriers was the runaway winner of the Ringtown Half Marathon  with his time of 65 mins 9 secs putting him over five minutes clear of the chasers led by Tudor Moldovan of Clonliffe Harriers.  In other weekend races, Tom Hogan of SBR and Jackie Carthy of Kilmore were the winners of the Rosslare 10km., while in the Phoenix Park, Kevin Bamher of Mullingar Harriers won the Healthy Heart 5km in 16 mins 32 secs, with Clonliffe’s Louise Reilly the first woman in 19 mins 7 secs.
