Petr Frydrych 88.23m javelin thrower confirmed for Letterkenny. Somba wins Clonee 10k

Petr Frydrych, Czech Republic, is the latest big name to be announced for tomorrow night’s Letterkenny International International Track  and Field Meet. frydrych

With a personal best of 88.23m, Frydrych is the third best Czech javelin thrower of all time, just behind his coach, three time Olympic champion and world record holder, Jan Zelezny. Frydrych, who competed at the London Olymics, has a European U23 silver medal to his credit, plus a Diamond League victory.

He’s coming to Letterkenny for the Four  Lanterns-sponsored javelin competition looking to improve on his season’s best of 82.19m and secure his Olympic selection. The Irish all-comers record of 84.12m from 1997  will certainly be under threat. Action at the Danny McDaid track, Aura Leisure Centre  from  7pm; admission is free.

PETER SOMBA continued his winning ways and helped Dunboyne AC to team victory at the Clonee 10k last night. Somba completed the distance in 31 minutes exactly; in second place was Karol Cronin of Sportsworld in 32 mins 35 secs.  Catherina Mullen of Shercock AC was first woman in 37 mins 23 secs.
