Slieve Gullion’s Paddy Hamilton won the Rochford 4-Mile in Tinryland, Carlow tonight. Hamilton’s time of 19 mins 56 secs put him comfortably clear of Kilkenny’s Brian Maher, with Cillian O’Leary of Raheny in third place. Finishing 12th overall and first woman in 22 mins 19 secs was Caroline Crowley of Crusaders. Raheny’s Annette Kealy was second.
Over 800 had signed on for the Warriors’ Run from Strandhill to the top of Knocknarea and back, and coming home first was Raheny’s Freddy Sittuk, who held off the challenge of mountain running international Brian McMahon of Clonliffe. A clear winner of the women’s race was Orla Drumm of Crusaders, who was followed home by triathlete Heather Foley.
Winners of the Tullamore Half Marathon were Stephen Conroy of Celbridge in 72 mins 3 secs and Tullamore’s own Pauline Curley in 83 mins 58. Biggest turn-out of the day was for the Great Pink 10k/5k, a charity race in the Phoenix Park, which attracted an entry of 3,821.
