Midweek: O’Leary Tops in Dunboyne; Cork record for Crowe

Cillian O’Leary was a comfortable winner of the Government Services BHAA 5-Mile in Dunboyne, leading home a huge entry of  close to 500. This race’s reputation had clearly gone before it! First women was Fiona Reid. Next Dublin BHAA race is the Trinity Track in College Park on Wednesday June 12 – a rare opportunity for runners of all standards to run not only on gorgeous grass but also on the first ever track laid in this country.

Even more turned out for the John Buckley Sports BHAA 5km. The total of 968 was a huge jump on last year’s figure of 783 and must be the largest entry for any BHAA race in the country.Mark Hanrahan was first home in 14 mins 58 secs, with Laura Crowe setting a blistering new course record of 16 mins 16 secs on her way to victory in the women’s race.

* Just four days after smashing his own Wicklow Way record, Eoin Keith finished second in the Carrick hill race. Winner was Des Kennedy, with Catherine Devitt the first woman.
