Fourth League title for DSD Women. Leevale Win Men’s. Also Multievent Results.

IMG_1271Dundrum South Dublin  and Leevale  won the Glo Health National League titles in Tullamore.

The DSD  women led almost from the start and finished on 107 points  to take their fourth consecutive title.  Clonliffe finished second  0n 95 points, with Kildare County third. Among the stand-out performers  for DSD were Sinead Denny who ran 54.86 to win the 400m, Maria McCambridge  a clear winner of the 1500m and also running the 800m, Anita White, winner of the javelin and second in the shot, Grainne Moggan winner of the high jump and third in the triple jump, and Kate Doherty winner of the 100m hurdles. Other notable  performances came from Clonliffe’s  Leah Moore winner of the 100m and 200m  and Kathy Hetherington of North Down, winner of the shot and discus.

In the men’s competition, fine performances by Alex Wright in the walk,  Sam Healy winner of both high jump and long jump, and David Tierney  winner of the shot and 56lb saw Leevale nailing down the men’s title with 116 points. St Abban’s were second on 109 points with Clonliffe Harriers third on 105 points. in the sprints, Keith Doherty made it a Tallaght double, beating national champion Jamie Davis of Raheny in the 100m. Freddy Keron Sittuk won the steeplechase for Raheny, while Ian Rogers won the pole vault for Clonliffe.

St Abban’s  won the women’s first division, with Nessa Millet winning both the 200m and 400m hurdles for them. Donore Harriers  had a memorable victory in the men’s competition, with wins for Eamon Fahy 100m, Sean Lawler 200m, Ray Hynes steeplechase, Jaco Oosthuysen javelin and John Travers 1500m. Travers later ran the 800m, where he just lost out to Kilkenny’s Eoin Everard. Another notable  winner for Kilkenny was the veteran Gary Halpin winner of the hammer with a throw of 51.51m. KOUROSH Foroughi   of Star of the Sea beat Trim’s Shane Aston  to win the Glo Health seniro men’s decathlon, also in Tullamore.  Thanks to a better high jump, Foroughi had led after the first day of competition held in the worst possible weather conditions yesterday. He sealed victory when he threw 53.49m  in today’s javelin, compared to 47.31m for Aston. Both men scored over 6,000 points, with Foroughi on 6,303  and Aston 6,063. Junior Mark Rogers  of St Peter’s  was third with 4,967 points.

Bohermeen’s Karen Dunne, aged just 20,  dominated the senior women’s heptathlon event  with a personal best score of 4,058 points – her first time over 4,000. Dunne, second in the national indoors combined events earlier this year,  won five of the seven event posting personal bests in the 100m hurdles, javelin shot and 800m. She also turned out for Meath in the 4x100m relay.

In the youth boys’ octathlon  Tim Bowler of Enniscorthy saw off the challenge of Keith Marks  from  Cushinstown – but only the the final 1000m run.  Elizabeth Morland  of Cushinstown  was the class of the field in the youth girls’ heptathlon with  a score of 4,669 points.
