Nat T-F Day 1: Proper Double, Wins for Clohisey, Britton, Brown, Fitzgibbon

Kelly Proper won the 200m and long jump at the opening day of the Glo Health National  Track and Filed Championships in Santry, dominating both events.

Equally dominant was Fionnuala Britton of Kilcoole who let DSD’s Maria McCambridge lead out the women’s 5000m before striking for home and winning in 15 mins 39.30.  McCambridge was second in 15:54.71 and Anne Marie McGlynn of Lifford third in 16:22.88.

In the men’s 10,000m, national cross-country champion Mick Clohisey of Raheny proved the class of the field winning in 29:58.31.  Behind him Eddie McGinley of Annadale and Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir battled it out for second place with McGinley taking it in the end.

Sarah Treacy, now with Dunboyne, was a clear winner of the women’s 3000m steeplechase, beating defending IMG_0912champion Michelle Finn of Leevale and dipping under ten minutes in her first season at this discipline.

Closest race of the day proved to be the men’s 200m, where Eanna Madden of Carrick on Shannon and David Hynes of Menapians couldn’t be separated and shared victory in a time of 21.42 secs.

Raheny’s  Zoe Brown had an easy enough victory in the women’s pole vault, clearing 4.30m and then making three attempts at 4.50m. Defending champion Tori Pena cleared 4.20m and failed at 4.30m.

Also in the field, Anita Fitzgibbon of DSD was winning her seventh national javelin title, throwing a season’s best of 48.62m. Sean Breathnach of GCH beat Paul Quirke of Crusaders to win the shot putt, Riocht’s Denis Finnegan took the triple jump with 14.70, Cara Kennedy of Ferrybank won the hammer and Claire Fitzpatrick  the discus.

Australian-born Liam Zamel Paez, wearing Clonliffe colours, won the men’s high jump when he soared over 2.16. Kourosh Forougi of Star of the Sea was second with 2.10.
