Midweek results: Home and Away

Louise Shanahan has won the 800m title at the European Youth Olympic Festival in the Netherlands in a huge PB of 2.08.75.  Ireland took a second gold in the 4 x100m, with the team anchored by Roseanne McGuckian who took individual bronze in the 200m.

Ireland had already collected two silver medals  in Utrecht  – Siobhra Flaherty in the girl’s 3000m and William Crowe in the boys’ 1500m – so the total haul for the week is two gold, two silver and one bronze. Not bad!

* Great run by Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir to win the St James’s Hospital Liberties 6km in 17 mins 55 secs. It took another minute and a half before Phil Kilgannon of Sportsworld finished in a solid second place. First woman was Orla Drumm of Crusaders in  20 mins 25 secs, with a certain Catherina McKiernan just nine seconds adrift.

* Paul Fleming of the Irish Dairy Board was first home in 16 mins 2 secs  at the Dublin City Council 5km in Irishtown, with Orna Dilworth of Bank of Ireland first woman.

Mark Carroll of Mullingar Harrier  just outsprinted Bailieborough’s Martin Fulton to win the  Oldcastle 5km in 16 mins 55 secs. Equally close was the women’s race with Dunboyne’s Fiona Reid getting to the line ahead of Elish Kelly from Raheny in 18 mins 02.
