Midsummer 5km Wins For Rooney and Kealy

Over 300 turned out for the ninth Tommy Lynam Midsummer 5km, held over a new course in St Anne’s Park Raheny – the biggest turn-out yet.  With the race incorporating the Dublin Novice Road Championships, clubs were out in force withLIN_0730 large groups from Tallaght, Civil Service/Phoenix Park, Donore Harriers, Sportsworld, Clonliffe Harriers and host club Raheny Shamrock lining out.

Clear winner of the race in 15 mins 21 secs was Clonliffe’s Colm Rooney  – a first  victory in quite a while for the former Irish 1500m champion. Raheny supervet Mick Traynor was 20 seconds adrift for second place, with his clubmate Brian Leahy third. Annette Kealy, another Raheny supervet, was first woman ahead of Clonliffe’s Emma Cooper.  The race was run in conjunction with Childline/ISPCC who provided green “superman” capes to all finishers – just in case it might rain (it didn’t!). Well done Raheny Shamrock on another great day. Pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com

* Freddy Keron Sittuk  continued his Irish tour with victory in the Heart of Laois 10km in Abbeyleix. His time of 31.14 put him 14 seconds clear of Clonliffe’s Gary O’Hanlon. Dymphna Ryan of Dundrum, Co Tipperary, was first woman.

* Steph Reilly of Sli Cualann  is back in action and putting in some good runs – 1st in both the Day of Portugal 5km in 16.35 and 2nd in Hollisfast 5km in 15.47.

* Ger Butler of 3ROC won the 26km Circuit of Avonbeg  taking in Lug and Wicklow’s highest hills.
