Dunboyne’s Peter Brandon Somba and Mary Leech of Drogheda and District were the winners of the 125th Clonliffe 2-mile held in non-stop rain at Santry.
Sligo’s Emmett Dunleavy was second of the men, followed by Clonliffe’s Conor Healy and Paralympian Michael McKillop. Clonliffe pair Louise Bailey and Laura Tuite were second and third women; first juniors were Sean O`Leary and Tuite.
Highlight of the second Dublin Graded Meet at the Tallaght track was a good win for Paddy Hamilton of Slieve Gullion in the men’s 5000m. DSD’s Emmett Jennings made the early running before Hamltin took over in front, coming home in a comfortable time of 15 mins 43.2 secs. Second was Colm Mahere with 14:50.81. Winning the women’s race was Meghan Ryan in 17:14.6, with her DSD clunmate Fiona Clinton second in 17:16.0. In the women’s 1500m, Ide Nic Dhomhnaill picked up the pace with 200m to go, winning in 4:48.85. Second was Lucan Harriers master Niamh Fitzpatrick in 4:51.12. Making a rare track appearance was DSD’s Linda Byrne who trotted home in 4:55.36.
Donore’s Daragh Fitzgibbon produced a strong kick down the finishing straight to win the men’s A 1500m in 4:03.2 from Andrew Connick of Ferrybank. In the 200m, races, DCH’s Catherine McManus of DCH clocked 24.60 secs and Niall Flanagan of Crusaders 22.99 secs.
