Mid-week: Mageean runs 2:06.18 in Sligo. Sittuk, Ganiel win Lisburn ‘Half'(ongoing)

Ciara Mageean of UCD ran an unpressurised 2:06.18 to win the 800m at the Sligo City Sports last night. In the 500m, Mark English ran a time of 61.27 secs and now joins the Irish team for the European Team Championships in Vaaso, Finland at the weekend. Second was Trim’s Harry Purcell in 61.9 secs. Purcell is training for the European U23 Championships starting July 13.

Joseph Finnegan Murphy, aged 17, of Dublin Striders produced the fastest time of the night in the B 200m at the Dublin Graded Meet in Tallaght . His time was 22.92 secs.
In the women’s 800m, Blackrock’s Sarah Healy ran 2:11.19, despite the oppressive heat. Fastest of the men was Donore’s Louis O’Loughlin in 1:55.28.
Meghan Ryan of DSD was a clear winner of the combined women’s 3000m in 9:49.56. Liffey Valley’s Peter Arthur clocked 8:37.87 for victory in the men’s A race. In the javelin, Mark Freeman’s 45.50 was the best of the night. Full results at www.dublinathletics.com

FREDDY SITTUK and Gladys Ganiel were the winners at the Run Lisburn Half Marathon last night. Second placed John Black along with Ganiel took the Northern Ireland and Ulster Half Marathon titles. On an oppressively warm night, many athletes dropped out at around the 10-mile mark.
Over 6,000 runners were in action between the half marathon the 10km and the 3km. Winners of the 10km were James Edgar and Donna Mone. Full report at www.nirunning.co.uk
