Kevin Baker won Tuesday’s ESB Beach 5km on Sandymount Strand, beating Myles Gibbons of An Post by three seconds. BHAA stalwart Vanessa Sallier was first woman. The Beach Race suffered because of a clash with the Star of the Sea 5km in Stamullen n Co Meath, which attracted over 400 starters. Winner was Conor Healy in 15 mins 28 secs. First woman was Many Hanley of Na Fianna, with ex-Irish international Rose Lambe first over 50.
A DAY LATER, Donore’s Jim McNamara set a new Irish M75 1500m record of 5 mins 57 secs at the second Dublin Graded Meet of the season in Tallaght. Winning the Dublin 10,000m Championships was Declan Reed of City of Derry.
AT THE Mullingar Harriers 5km League in Belvedere House, Peter Mooney and Charlotte Kearney led home almost 500 finishers.
COLM SHEAHAN led home 789 finishers at the annual Cheetah Run, a four-mile jaunt around Fota Wildlife Park, which caused great amusement among the animals.Orla Drumm of Crusaders was tenth overall and first woman.
IN LOS ANGELES, Paul Robinson 3:37.81 for the 1500m at the USATF High Performance Distance Classic, while Laura Crowe 2:02.24 for 800m – inside the B standard for the European Championships. Both were representing represeting Melbourne Track. Robinson finished second in his race and eighth fastest overall behind Matt Centrowitz of the Nike Oregon Project who clocked a time of 3:35.44. Crowe finished seventh in her race and 14th overall.
