Maria McCambridge of DSD proved the star of the 38th Ballycotton ’10’ when she smashed her own course record with a winning women’s time of 54 mins 20 secs. Not only that, but Maria now “owns” the three fastest women’s times in the race – she ran 54.48 in 2012 and 55.01 a year later. Overall winner of the race was Clonliffe’s Sergiu Ciobanu who won a great battle with Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir to finish in 49 mins 3 secs for his fifth consecutive victory. There was also a remarkable run by Tinryland’s Tommy Payne who set a new M55 best of 56 mins 34 secs.
DSD’s Killian Mooney, a junior international mountain runner, was a clear winner of the Gael Force 22km in the Maamturks, Co Mayo. Mooney’s time of 1 hrs 39 mins 41 secs put him almost two minutes ahead of Raheny’s Ian Conroy. Sharon Bird of North Belfast Harriers was first woman in 2:01.03.
