Maria McCambridge and Paul PollockĀ have been selected for the marathon at World Championships in Moscow next August. The pair are the current Irish marathon champions after coming home best of the Irish at last October’s Dublin Marathon.
McCambridge’s winning time of 2:35:28 last October was a personal best by one second, improving on the 2:35:29 she ran in Paris in 2009.
More recently, McCambridge was forced to drop out of the Rotterdam Marathon but is back in good shape running both the 5000m and the 3000m for her club DSD at last weekend’s European Clubs Championships in Portugal.
In Dublin, Pollock ran 2:16.30 – inside the World Championships B standard of 2 hrs 17 mins. Last month, the Annadale Strider ran a time of 2:17.10 at the London Marathon.
Robert Heffernan, Colin Griffin and Brendan Boyce have been selected for the 50km walk.
* Rathfarnham’s Sean HehirĀ has won the Sixmilebridge 10km in new course record 31:10.
