Maria McCambridge not only won the 5000m for her club Dundrum South Dublin at the European Clubs Championships in Amsterdam, she lapped the entire field. DSD’s other winner was Sarah Mulligan who led from gun to tape to win the 3000m in 9 mins 37 secs – a new best for her. There were also encouraging performances from two of the younger members of the team, who also ran personal best times – Kate Doherty with 15.08 in the 100m hurdles and Ella Fennelly who ran 4:36.20 in the 1500m. Others who picked up good points were Fiona Clinton, 3rd steeplechase and the versatile Grainne Moggan 5th in the high jump. Although both on the rehab list, Sinead Denny (400m) and Anita Fitzgibbon (shot and javelin)both put in brave performances.
For Crusaders in the men’s competition, Brian Murphy won his heat of the 400m clocking the third fastest time, while Jason Harvey was 2nd fastest in the 400m hurdles with a time of 51.72 secs. The 4×400 squad of Mulhall, Ennis, Murphy and Harvey finished second fastest in 3:14.09. Adam McMullen added 14 valuable points to the overall score when he finished fourth in both long jump and triple jump.
