Kilkenny’s Brian Maher won yesterday’s Streets of Portlaoise St Patrick’s Day 5km with his time of 15 mins 2 secs putting him seven seconds clear of William Maunsell from Clonmel. Mary Mulhare made it a home win in the women’s race, finishing in 17 mins 58 secs and beating Michelle Cox of Newbridge.
AT TODAY’S AES 25th Larne Half Marathon.Mark McKinstry of North Belfast Harriers and national marathon champion Laura Graham of Mourne Runners led home a record breaking field of close to 2,000 athletes
McKinstry led all the way in the men’s race, winning in 71 mins 32 secs, with John Black of North Belfast Harriers second and Willowfield’s Neil Weir third.
Graham survived a fall to finish 12th and first woman for a second year in 76 mins 59 secs. Gladys Ganiel O’Neill of North Belfast Harriers was second and Amy Bulman third. Graham is preparing for next month’s London Marathon.
FIRST WOMAN at the AON Mullingar Half Marathon yesterday in 78 mins 50 secs was Siobhan O’Doherty of Borrisokane, the winner in Ballycotton just five days earlier. Peter Mooney was the overall winner of the race in 73 mins 21 secs.
