Roads: Lee Smashes Dunshaughlin 10k record. Christie just misses out.

If a road running league based on the best races in the country was to be set up (come on someone!), then the Dunshaughlin 10km would definitely be on  the list.  Look at the quality of last night’s race – Mark Christie and Mick Clohisey strained ever sinew in the chase for the course record of 29 mins 21 secs and  Christie missed out on on it by one single solitary second with Clohisey five seconds behind him. Agonising!  Olympic marathon man Mark Kennealy was third,  with Peter Somba, one of our “Irish” Kenyans, fourth and Sean Hehir fifth, all of them under 30 mins 40 secs.

There was a record in the women’s race where Lizzie Lee  took almost a minute off her own course record finishing in 33 mins 13 secs; her previous best was 34 mins 8 secs, set in 2013. Second was Barbara Sanchez racing for the first time in a while. Among the master winners,  you will spot Lezan Kimutai, Mick Byrne and Emilia Dan. Making it a team double were the men and women of nearby Dunboyne. Quality stuff.FullSizeRender 2

IAN WALSH was the winner of  Raheny’s annual Midsummer race, this year run over four miles. Mary Walsh was first woman.
