Kenneally Wins 5000m and Denny 400m at AI Games

Mark Kennneally of Clonliffe Harriers continued his comeback after a long battle with injury when he won the 5000m in an untroubled 14.28.93 at the AI Games in suLIN_0624n-soaked Santry today. In the 400m, Sinead Denny of DSD, who currently tops the rankings for this distance, beat close rival Shauna Cannon clocking a time of 54.52. In third place was Siofa Cleirigh Buttner of DSD.

Dara Kerwick of Carrick-on-Suir won the men’s 400m A race in 47.28,  beating Brian Murphy from Crusaders.  Clonliffe’s Brian Cregan opted to run the 200m and clocked a personal best time of 21.05, beating David Hynes of Menapians, who earlier had won the 100m. Niamh Whelan won the 200m in 23.70, just beating Steph Creaner whose time of 23.72 is inside the European U-23 Championships qualifying standard.

Darren McBrearty took the men’s 800m, while Sarah Lavin was a comfortable winner of both the women’s 100m and  100m hurdles.

The games were a stop-start affair designed to test systems for the European Team Championships later this  month. Men and women’s 4x100m relay races were held with final places on the Irish team to be announced tomorrow (Mon) evening. Pics at www.lindie.zenfolio.com.
