Irwin fastest in 100m at Dublin Graded League

Sligo’s Zak Irwin posted the fastest time of the night for the 100m at the fourth Dublin Graded Meet of the season in Santry. Irwin’s time of 10.88 put him well clear of the chasers, led by Tallaght’s  Keith Doherty. Catherine McManus of Celtic DCH won the women’s A race in 12.09. In the 3000m, John Travers of Donore came home in 8:23.57, well clear of Clonliffe’s David Fitzmaurice  and Ray Hynes of Crusaders.

Eoin Mulhall of Crusaders and Shauna Cannon of Brothers Pearse won the 400m A races. In the field, Stephen Gaffney of Rathfarnaham WSAF  jumped 6.75 on his sixth and final attempt to snatch victory from Keith Smith of Menapians, whose best of 6.67 had come in the fourth round.  Dunboyne clubmates Padraig White and James McCabe both threw over 60 metres with the 7.256kg hammer, while Alice Akers of Marian, the schools  inter champion, threw 57.58 with the women’s 3kg implement.

1016583_465113590248897_1069872954_n* A severe mist forced the shortening of  hill running’s summer league race at Seefingen in the Dublin Mountains. Gary Cross of Letterkenny ended up winning the 7.5km race, chased hard by orienteer Ger Butler of 3ROC (pictured). Mags Greenan of Clonliffe was first woman.

*  Rose-Anne Galligan of Newbridge, Riocht’s Laura Crowe and UCD’s Ciara Everard are pencilled in for a top-class women’s 800m at the Cork City Sports. on Tuesday July 2. They will take on a field that includes  Americans Phoebe Wright, Geena Gall, Heather Kaapf and Ajee Wilson;
Australians Zoe Buckman and Selma Kajan and the much-improved New Zealander Angie Smit.
