IFAN: Barr under 50 secs again; PB for Everard. Tuohy wins IMC 800m

Thomas Barr  again went under 50 seconds when winning the 400m hurdles at the IFAN Meet in Belgium. Barr’s time of 49.50 secs put him comfortably clear of Belgium’s Michael Bultheel who finished in 50.61 secs.  Barr’s Irish record stands at 48.90 secs; he ran 48.99 earlier this season in Doha. Ireland’s Jason Harvey was third in 51.16. secs.

In the women’s 800m,  Ciara Everard proved that she is right back in form when she finished second in a personal best 2:01.21. Winner was Alison Leonard of Great Britain in 2:00.51.  In the men’s 800m, Karl Griffin’s time of 1:47.39 was a personal best and inside the qualification mark for the European U23s.

Best1276013_G08_W01 of the trio of Irish women in the steeplechase as Michelle Finn in a personal best 9:49 minutes. She was fourth in the race followed by Kerry O’Flaherty 9:53.05 and Sara Treacy 10:04.78. In the 100m hurdles, Ben Reynolds won the  main race of the day in 13.79 secs. Sinead Denny ran a season’s best  54.86 secs in the 800m; Kelly Proper ran 24 secs in the 200m.

NIALL TUOHY OF Ferrybank won the A 800m race at the IMC Meet in Belfast.  In a close-run race, five men ran under 1:50 and Tuohy’s time of 1:49.38  saw him edge out Tallaght’s Anthony Lieghio who ran 1:49.69.  Winning the women’s A race was BMC’s Alexandra Bell in 2:03.24.  Katie Kirk was third in 2:07.53. RATHFARNHAM WSAF won the Wicklow Way Relay over a slightly adjusted course from Kilmashogue to the Dying Cow a few miles from the usual finish at Shilleleagh.
