Gough Leads Irish Gold Rush at Euro Masters

LIN_8233World indoor record holder Joe Gough added yet another medal to his vast collection when he won the M60 800m at the European Masters’ Championships in Izmir, Turkey. After going through 400m in 76 seconds, Gough’s time of 2:20.89 put him comfortably clear of Walter Rentsch from Germany.

Also winning gold was Galway’s Martin McEvilly in the M56 steeplechase and  John MacDermott in the M70 400m and 300m hurdles.  Silver medals went to Kevin Byrne of DSD in the M40 pole vault, with Byrne also setting a new Irish record in the decathlon, and to Dorothy McLennan in the W75 pentathlon.  Taking bronze were Paul Cowhie of Civil Service in the M50 5000m and Tony Martin of Carrick Aces in the M55 400m.
