Martin Fagan of Mullingar Harriers won the Charleville International Half Marathon by over two minutes in Co Cork. Fagan’s time of 63 mins 58 secs put him comfortably clear of the chasers led by Ismail Ssenyange. After returning from a two-year doping suspension earlier this year, Fagan has re-established himself as the dominant road runner in the country. Ssenyange, from Uganda via Dubai, where he is coached by Irishman Malcolm Murphy, was runner-up for a second year. In 2013, he ran about two minutes slower.
Maria McCambridge of DSD was an even clearer winner of the women’s race with her time of 72 mins 26 secs giving her a four-minute margin over Siobhan O’Doherty of Borrisokane.
