Euro Indoor Mark for McCarthy (plus results)

David McCarthy of West Waterford ran a time of 7 mins 51.24 secs at the Valentine Invitational in Boston last night to qualify for the European Indoors. McCarthy had 19 seconds to spare  on the second finisher, Stephen Sollowin.
* At the Armagh International Road Races, also last night, Mary Cullen set a new course record of 9 mins 7.88 seconds to win the women’s 3km from Ava Hutchinson and Kerry Harty. The previous record, set by Kate Reed, was 9 mins 15 secs. Ethan Shaw won the men’s race followed by Nigel Stark and Paul Pollock. Most of these athletes will also run in Sunday’s Ras na h Eireann.
* Yasmin Wilson won the girls’ senior race at the Aviva Ulster Schools Cross-Country in Mallush, leading Ballyclare to team victory.  Maxl Walmsley Pledl from Royal Armagh, who also trains with the local club,  won the boy’s senior title and a day later, finished second  junior in the open 3km  in Armagh; Conal Kirk of Lagan Valley  won the race and was first junior.
