Mick Clohisey of Raheny Sharmock was a clear winner of the 40th Ballycotton 10, beating five times winner Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe. Both men broke 50 minutes, as did Kevin Maunsell of Clonmel.

VALDAS Dopolskas of Balbriggan and District was the runaway winner in 68.32 of the Meath Half Marathon in Bohermeen. Dunleer’s Karen Costello won a more tightly contested women’s race in 86 mins 18 secs.
IN JAPAN, Mayo-born Sinéad Diver,who runs in Australian colours, ran a personal best 2:31.37 to finish tenth in the Nagoya Women’s Marathon in 2:31.37. AT THE British Indoor Masters Championships in Lee Valley, Cathryn Brady of DSD won the W50 800m and was second in the 1500m, while her team mate Kevin Byrne won the M45 long jump and pole vault, despite arriving late at the stadium because of a delayed train. The other Irish winner was Mary Barrett of Loughrea in the W55 shot. Finishing second in the W60 1500m was Maxine Jones of DSD; she was also third in the 800m.
STAR OF THE IRIS TEAM at the European Throws Cup in Gran Canaria was Michaela Walsh from Swinford. She finished second in the B final of the U23 women’s hammer with a new Irish junior record of 59.64m, which also puts her fifth on the all-time Irish list. Walsh was also 8th in the shot with 15.79m. In the B final of the U23 men’s shot, John Kelly’s 16.84m was enough for third place. Eoin Sheridan threw 61.76 for 14th place in the U23 discus.
At senior level, Marco Pons of DMP was 8th in the B final of the discus with 48.79m, while Padraig White of Dunboyne was 9th in the hammer with 61.21m.
JOHN TRAVERS Donore came home first at the Cara Bundoran 10 mile, holding off the challenge of Conor Duffy of Glaslough Harriers, Letterkenny’s Eoin McGinley, and Conal McCaughey, Derry City.
Travers made his break at the seven mile mark, and despite a stitch in the final mile finished in 52mins 22secs -18 secs ahead of Duffy.
Catherine Whoriskey, City of Derry, Derry, finished 14th overall and first woman in 58.29, with Letterkenny’s Catriona Jenning second in 60.19
SIOFRA CLEIRIGH BUTTER representing Villanova finished 8th in the women’s mile at the NCAA Division 1 Indoor Championships in Texas. Her time was 4 mins 34.78 secs.
IN WALES, Alex O’Shea from St Finbarr’s won the Barry 40-mile in 4 hours 30 mins.
