Christmas Races Round-Up

Maria McCambridge, in her first outing since her Dublin Marathon victory, won the Greencastle 5-Mile in Omagh on St Stephen’s Day. Stephen Scullion of North Belfast Harriers was the overall winner.
*Eoin Flynn of Rathfarnham, based in Gran Canaria these days, won the Bull Run 5-Mile on Decembed 26  in 26 mins 25 secs,leading home an entry of about 60.
* In Cavan, Simon Ryan and Fiona Roche made it a Raheny double at the Christmas Dash 5km – as did Mick Clohisey and Elish Keely at the Fields of Athenry 10km, where we hearthere  was a special category for drowned rats!
* Former Olympian Roisin McGettigan was first woman at the Streets of Wicklow 5km in 17 mins 55 secs. Overall winner was Jonathan Phillips from Roundwood in 15 mins 55 secs. About 470 braved the conditions.
*Caitriona Jennings of Rathfarnham ran her first race after a long period of injury in her native Donegal on December 26, finishing first woman  at the Finn Valley 5km in 17 mins  27 secs. Sister Sinead was second in 17 mins 56 mins. First man was Chris Johnston of Letterkenny and DCU in 15 mins 26 secs.
