Jennings, Sittuk Win Lisburn ‘Half’. Clohisey wins Dublin 5000m title. Plus Docklands 5k

IMG_5043Rathfarnham’s Caitriona Jennings made a surprise return to road racing at the Lisburn Half Marathon last night where she finished first woman in 81 mins 17 secs.

Jennings has done little running since representing Ireland in the marathon and the London Olympics three years ago. With a number of injury problems, she took up rowing for a few years, following in the wash of her sister Sinead, who is still a member of the Irish international rowing team and also an accomplished athlete.

Overall winner of the race was Raheny’s Freddy Keron Sittuk in a time of 71 mins 36 secs. Full report at www.nirunning.co.uk

WINNERS AT  tonight’s Dockland 5km were Peter Brandon Somba and Caroline Crowley.

A 5000m race won by Raheny’s Mick Clohisey proved the highlight of the fifth Dublin Graded League Meet in Santry. Clohisey powered home over the final 1000m to win in 14:30.45. Aaron Hanlon of Clonliffe , home from Porvidence College for the summer, was second in 14:37.53, holding off Rathfarnham’s Sean Hehir who finished in 14:38.40.

Ann Marie McGlynn of Letterkenny, who plans to make her steeplechase debut at the Letterkenny Sub-4 Minute Challenge on Friday July 10, won the women’s 5000m race in 16:30.17. Borrisokane’s Siobhan O’Doherty was second in 17:05.98 and Una Britton of Kilcoole  third in 17:13.05.

Nadia Power of Templeogue won the Dublin 1500m Championships race in 4:29.59 beating Raheny’s Maria O’Sullivan. Andrew Connick of Ferrybank won a slow-paced men’s 1500m in 4:01.77. Winning the women’s 43km hammer was Lauren O’Keeffe of Donore with a heave of 55.88. Brendan O’Donnell of Lifford won the men’s 5kg hammer with a best of 62.86.

Men: Freddy Keron Sittuk (Raheny) 71.86, 2 Brian Campbell (Willowfield) 71.52, 3 Andrew Annett (North Belfast Harriers. Women: 1 Caitriona Jennings (Rathfarnham WSAF) 81.17, 2 Cathy McCourt (NBH) 82.00, 3 Laura Graham 84.06.

10km –

Men: 1 Ryan McDermott (Anndale) 31.06, 2 Paddy Hamilton ( Slieve Gullion Runners) 31.17, 3 Chris Madden (City of Lisburn) 31.56. Women: 1 Natasha Adams (Letterkenny) 34.53, 2 Rebecca Murtagh (Dromore) 36.50, 3 Heather Foley 38.01.
