Dunboyne’s Rory Kavanagh was out his own at last night’s Braveheart 5km in Trim, winning in 15 mins 50 secs. Peter Mooney finished second and Sean Murphy third. First woman was Charlotte Kearney of Donadea Runners in 18 mins 365 secs, with Dunboyne veteran Emilia Dan second and Mullingar’s Sinead Roche third. Official race starter this year was schools track star Harrry Purcell, a member of Trim AC. Before they set off, Trim Drama Group and the Trim Re-enactment Group roused the runners with words and weaponry. All proceeds from the race (€3,000 last year) go to good causes; CFI is main charity this year with a balance divided between an autism unit in a local school, the C of I Cathedral fund and Trim AC’s own fund for installing flood lights.
