Clonmel native David Mansfield, running for Clonliffe Harriers, won the annual GR8KM race over the rarely-run 8km distance (4.97 miles) at Mitchelstown in a fine time of 24:54.
Second in this year’s Cork City Marathon in 2:29:20, Mansfield is now building up to Dublin in October where he recorded 2:27:34 for 15th spot last year. 
Eric Curran from Leevale took second in 25:08 with unattached runner Eoin Sugrue just getting the better of Donal Coakley (Leevale) for third, 26:36 to 26:38.
Sugrue, 44, is from the famed athletics village of Banteer and had finished fourth over the marathon distance in Cork this year in a personal best of 2:33:01.
The winner of the women’s race at Mitchelstown was Orla Tuohy, a native of Fermoy. Back in 2004, she ran the Dublin Marathon in 2:57:10 which gained her the bronze medal in the Irish championship. She also competed for Ireland in the World Mountain Running Championship.
Now a doctor based in Southampton and a mother of three, Tuohy had also won the low-key Shanagarry 5km the previous night in a time of 18:40.
