Carmel Parnell of Leevale and Raheny Shamrock Mick Traynor both took gold on a great opening day for the Irish at the World Masters Track and Field Championships in Lyon, France.
In the cross-country, Parnell won the W60 category and Traynor the M50 class. Other medal winners were John Dunne of Donore 2nd M35 andCarmel Crowley of Bandon 3rd W45. In the team team competition, the W45 team of Crowley, Niamh O’Sullivan and Joan Hough finished second; the M35 team of Dunne, and Rathfarnham pair Paul Fleming and Ronan Kearns, and the M50 team of Traynor, Tom O’Connor from Civil Service and Dunboyne’s Michael Cornyn both finished third.
