Ciaran Doherty of Letterkenny is Ireland’s latest medal winner at the World Masters in Lyon. In the M40 steeplechase, Doherty took silver when he finished second in a time of 9:23.77. Winner was Spain’s Jo Blanco Quevado in 9:15.24; third was another Spanish athlete Manuel Nunez in 9:36.72. It was a second world masters title for the Donegal fisherman – in 2012, he won the M35 indoor 3000m title in Finland
In other results, Dannea Herron finished eighth in the W55 triple jump with 8.45 and John Mac Dermott eighth in the M70 400m in 1:07.38
