Stop Press: Dublin Marathon sold out

Although registration for the 2016 SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon closed earlier than anticipated due to unprecedented demand for places, an extra 2,000 places have been made available. That  will bring the total entry for the race to 19,500, making it the fourth biggest in Europe this year after Paris 40,801, London 39, 200 and Berlin 28,000. Dublin was previously ranked eighth on the list.

Despite  the previous allocation of an extra 2,000 places made available to accommodate the new Sunday format, the event had reached its capacity of 17,500 with over ten weeks left until race day on Sunday October 30.

A waiting list has been created to allocate  the  additional spots. Priority will go to those who have competed in the 2016 SSE Airtricity Race Series. Those getting a place will be informed on August 31; waiting list registration is at http://sseairtricitydublinmarathon.ie/contact-us/

The race organisers, apologising for any inconvenience or disappointment, stress that the health and safety of race participants remains top priority.  They’re working with the authorities to see whether the race can accommodate a larger entry next year.

Entry for the  Dublin Half Marathon on September 24 in the Phoenix Park is still open.
