Kate O’Connor of St Vincent’s Dundalk won the under 16 girls title at the SIAB Schools Combined Events International in Glasgow- and with a new record score.
Although her total of 3802 was less than her best of 3865 set at the All Irelands, it comfortably broke British international heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson’s meet record of 3769 points set in 2007. The Irish team took silver.
In other good results, Damien Hickey and Tony Odubote finished second and third in the boys’ over 16 competition. With David Dagg seventh and Daniel Ryan 12th, the team finished second.
Ryan had been performing strongly with a 15.97 in the shot putt and a 22.65 in the 200m both the best of the day, but picked up an injury during his specialist long jump and was forced to sit out the 800m.
