Round-Up: Robinson 2nd in Boston Mile; Meath Titles for Kavanagh, Martin

Paul Robinson of St Coca’s finished second in an invitational mile run in association with the Boston Marathon. His time in a tactical race was 4 mins 12 secs. Winner of the race was Nick Willis of New Zealand in 4:11.3. Leo Manzano of the USA was third bin 4:13.3.

In Florida, Lisburn’s Amy Foster ran 11.50 secs in the 100m – just 0.01 outsideLIN_0935 her personal best.

At the Mount Sac Relays in Walnut, California, Clonliffe’s Brian Gregan clocked 21.40 secs in the 200m, finishing seventh. Gregan teams up with Robinson on an Irish team at next Saturday’s Penn Relays; making up the team are Donore’s John Travers and John Coghlan of MSB.

Kerry O’Flaherty of Newcastle finished third in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:00.22. In one of the many 1500m races, Andrew Monaghan of Lagan Valley ran a personal best 3:51.95, while in a different race, his twin brother ran 3:52.82.

In the hammer, Conor McCullough of Crusaders AC finished second with a throw of 72.53m less than a metre shy of the 73.50m he needs to qualify for the European Track and Field Championships in Zurich next August.

DUNBOYNE’S Rory Kavanagh and Olivia Martin of Bohermeen were the winners of the Meath 5-Mile Road Championships, held in Kildalkey. Kavanagh led the race from the start and finished in 26 mins 16 secs. Second in 27 mins was Ciaran Peters of Star of the Sea, while leading Bohermeen to team victory in third place was Derek Croal in 27 mins 15 secs. In the women’s race Martin (a former juvenile athlete -Olivia Fitzsimons- back running after 30 years) finished in 32 mins 11 secs, with  Dunshaughlin pair Linda Fahy  and Ursula Byrne second and third. With Linda Gunning fourth, Bohermeen made it a team double.
