Paddy Hamilton, of Annadale Striders was the clear winner of the SSE Airtricity Race Series Fingal 10km race in a time of 31:20. Hamilton is training for October’s Dublin Marathon, where he aims to improve on his fifth placing of last year. In second place was Mark Hoey from Star of the Sea, who emigrates to Canada next month. Raheny’s Simon Ryan was third.
First woman was Michelle McGee of DSD in 35.34. Clonliffe’s Ailish Malone was second in 35.51 and and Fiona Stack of Raheny Shamrock third in 36:36.
Jan Uzik, a Slovakian based in Cork who only took up running two years ago, was a clear winner of the Energia Irish 24 hour Championships held at the Mary Peters track in Belfast. Uzik took the lead with six hours to go and completed a total of 146.6miles – that’s 590 laps of the track. Joint second were former champion John O’Regan and Eddie Gallen with141.6 miles, while fourth on 139.27 miles was Thomas Bubendorfer who had led for much of the race. Defending champion Eoin Keith was forced to drop out. First woman was Donna McLoughlin who completed 112.3 miles despite a leg injury. Winning the 6-person relay over 24 hours were Donadea Runners, followed by Kildare neighbours Le Cheile from Leixlip.
CLOSE TO A THOUSAND turned out for the St James Hospital 6km in the Liberties, with Gavin Finlay first home and Orla Drumm fourth overall and first woman.
