Round-up: Fionnuala 5th and First Woman at Albertville 5-Mile

Fionnuala Britton finished fifth overall  and first woman at the Albertville 5-Mile  around Duncrue Industrial Estate in Belfast today.

From the start, Britton was part of a pack that was chasing early leader Brendan Teer of East Down.  Teer finished a clear winner in 25 mins 47 secs, followed by Willowfield’s Paul Rowan in 26 mins 7 secs and James Brown of East Coast in 26 mins 34 secs.

Britton finished in 26 mins 43 secs. Second woman was Newcastle’s Kerry O’Flaherty,  back racing after a break, in 28 mins 46 secs.

* KeitLIN_4250h Shiels of Foyle Valley won the Bundoran 10-Mile in Co Donegal, finishing over half a minute clear of Eoghan McGinley from Rathfarnham WSAF. First woman was  Raheny’s Fiona Stack in 59 mins 34 secs, with Breege Connolly of North Belfast Harriers a close second in 59 mins 46 mins and Rathfarnham’s Caitriona Jennings third  in 60 mins 36 secs.

* John Reidy won the men’s race comfortably at the Dublin Airport BHAA Cross-Country at the Alsaa. Sonya O’Connell won the women’s race in a sprint for the line, with Paula Grant a close second.

*Fastest time from the various Parkruns came from Aberdeen visitor Eoin Durkan  who ran 16.33 at Marlay Park, followed by Barbara Cleary in 17.16. A few weeks ago ,Cleary was the first woman to lead home a Parkrun; others have followed and indeed, the increased number of women in all the Parkruns yesterday was noticeable.  Fastest women’s time  of the day came from Deirdre Byrne with 18.35 in St Anne’s Park.
