Ballymena’s Christine McMahon has qualified for the European Track and Field Championships after running 56.97 secs in the 400m hurdles at the Nivelles International Meeting in Belgium. Her time was just inside the Euro A standard of 57 seconds and put her second behind Anneri Ebersohn who ran 56.85 secs.
Also competing was Kelly Proper of Ferrybank who won the 200m in 23.53 secs and was fourth in the 100m in 11.70secs, and UCD’s Sarah Lavin who won the 100m hurdles in 13.46.
In the men’s 200m, Sligo’s Zak Irwin ran a personal best time of 21.34 secs for victory. His time was inside the B standard for the Junrio Junior Championships. Kilkenny’s Cliodhna Manning equalled the B-standard of 24.50 for second in her 200m race.
