Records Tumble at Juvenile Relays; English beats Gregan in Belfast

LIN_0935Kilkenny City Harriers won the M18 4×100 title in the closest race of the day at the GloHealth  Irish Juvenile Relay Championships  in Tullamore. Their time of 44.03  put them just .01 ahead of Bandon AC  and was one of seven new records set on a perfect day for running.

Other record-breaking winners included Menapians  M16 4×100 with a time of 44.92.  Tallaght won the M18 4x400m in 3 mins 31.86 secs with Dundrum South Dublin team best of the girls in 4:17.15.
Blackrock AC  from Co Dublin won both the W12 and 13 4x100m title in new championships best times of  55.77 secs and  53.28 secs respectively. In the Under 14 4x100m races, St Laurent O’Toole  proved best of the girls in 51.41 with Leevale winning the boys’ title in 50.18.  Taking a hat-trick of victories in the U15,16 and 17 age groups were the girls of Emerald AC, while winning the W19 4x100m was Tir Chonaill in  49.03 secs. Galway City Harriers won the girls’ 4x400m in  4:12.30.

EARLIER IN THE WEEK,   Paul Robinson of St Coca’s ran a  personal best 3:40.39 to win the 1500m at the Belfast International Meet. Robinson was pushed hard by Australian visitor Ryan Gregson, who finished on his heels. In the men’s 400m,  UCD’s Mark English secured a shock victory over Clonliffe’s Brain Gregan, with a winning time of  46.56 secs – a personal best. Lisburn’s Amy Foster won the 100m and North Down’s Ben Reynolds  the 110m hurdles, while Northern Ireland sprinter Leon Reid  beat Craig Lynch of Shercock  in the men’s 100m. Christine McMahon, who recently made the qualification mark for the European Championships, started well in the 400m hurdles but lost out to English visitor Aisha Naibe-Wey and the fast-finishing Jessie Barr of Ferrybank. In the 5000m, Kevin Batt made his first appearance in a St Coca’s vest to finished second behind  Ben St Lawrence of Australia, who was a clear winner in 13 mins 27.72 secs. Batt finished second in 14:02.97, with Mark Christie of Mullingar a close third.

FREDDY KERON SITTUK won  the Achill Half Marathon today in 69 mins 57 secs, with Gary O’Hanlon second.
